Candle Care Guide

Proper candle care is essential for getting the most out of your BKBadness & Co. candles. Follow these tips to ensure a safe, long-lasting, and enjoyable experience with your candles.

1. Wick Trimming

Before Every Burn: Always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before lighting your candle. This helps prevent soot buildup, uneven burning, and excessive flickering.

How to Trim: Use a wick trimmer, scissors, or nail clippers to trim the wick. Make sure the wick is centered and free of debris.

2. First Burn

Allow a Full Melt Pool: On the first burn, let the candle burn long enough for the wax to melt across the entire surface. This usually takes 2-4 hours, depending on the size of the candle.

Why It Matters: A full melt pool prevents tunneling (where the candle burns down the middle, leaving wax on the sides) and ensures an even burn for the life of the candle.

3. Burn Time

Optimal Burn Duration: For best results, burn your candle for 2-4 hours at a time. This helps maintain an even melt pool and prolongs the candle’s lifespan.

Avoid Overburning: Don’t burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Overburning can cause the wick to mushroom, which may result in soot and an uneven burn.

4. Extinguishing the Candle

Use a Snuffer: To avoid splattering wax and smoke, use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame instead of blowing it out.

Re-center the Wick: After extinguishing the candle, carefully re-center the wick to ensure it burns evenly the next time you light it.

5. Safety Precautions

Keep Away from Drafts: Place your candle in a draft-free area to prevent uneven burning and excessive flickering.

Never Leave Unattended: Always burn candles within sight, and never leave a burning candle unattended.

Keep Away from Flammable Items: Ensure your candle is placed away from anything that can catch fire, such as curtains, papers, or other flammable materials.

Keep Out of Reach of Children and Pets: To prevent accidents, always keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.

6. Storage

Cool, Dry Place: Store your candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat, to prevent discoloration and melting.

Cover When Not in Use: If possible, cover your candles when not in use to prevent dust and debris from collecting on the surface.

7. Maximizing Scent Throw

Small Spaces: To achieve the best scent throw, burn your candle in a small to medium-sized room. The fragrance will fill the space more effectively.

Ventilation: Avoid placing your candle in an area with too much ventilation, as this can disperse the fragrance too quickly.

8. End of Candle Life

Stop Burning at 1/2 Inch: For safety, discontinue use of your candle when about 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom. Burning the candle below this point can cause the container to overheat.

Repurpose the Jar: Once the candle is finished, clean out the jar and repurpose it for storage, as a planter, or as a decorative piece.
